UNITED NATIONS POPULATION FUND (UNFPA) is an international development agency that promotes the right of every woman, man and child to enjoy a life of health and equal opportunity. Under the supervision of the Programme Manager, the Programme Assistant will support the design, planning and management of UNFPA's programme 2007-2011 by providing and managing data inputs, providing logistical support, monitoring project implementation and following up on recommendations. Responsibilities • The Programme Assistant will apply established UN systems and procedures and will assist in the creation of substantive knowledge by compiling, synthesizing and analyzing information relevant to population and development, reproductive health and gender issues, including supporting the implementation of UNFPA's knowledge sharing approach in programme development. • He/she will be instrumental in facilitating programme/project implementation using and developing appropriate UN mechanisms and systems and will ensure compliance with established UN procedures. • The Programme Assistant will maintain collaborative relationships with all programme and operations staff and with project counterparts. Qualifications • Academic Requirements: (Bachelor's degree) or (Certificate) or (Knowledge) in health, population, demography and/or other related social science field is preferable. • Experience: At least five years experience assisting the management of projects in health or development-related fields at national, regional or international levels. Required strong experience in administrative and financial processes. • Languages: Fluency in oral and written English. Knowledge of French and/or Spanish would be an asset. • Computer skills: Proficiency in current office software applications.
