Alternative Power Sources Limited (APS) was incorporated in 2005 from a merger between JamPearl Engineering and Construction (JEC) and Brightlight Solar. The two companies having worked jointly on a project by project basis from as early as 2003.

JEC, a member of the Jampearl Group of Companies, assisted with the installation of anemometer and data logging equipment at the Munro Turbine located at Munro College in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica in collaboration with the Department of Physics at the University of the West Indies some fourteen years ago. It is the first commercial wind turbine installed in the island. The power that is produced is sold directly to the public power company (grid). In the latter part of 2007, APS rehabilitated the Munro Turbine to operational capability after damage from Hurricane Ivan.

JEC has also worked as prime contractor on projects for Jamaica’s Urban Development Corporation (UDC) including: the Whitehouse Fisheries Facility (along side Diato Koygo of Japan) and, renovation/conversion of the old Oceanna Hotel to offices for the Ministry of Health.

Alternative Power Sources is a member of the Jamaica Solar Energy Association and the Solar Energy Industries Association (USA).

In January 2009, Alternative Power Sources (Bahamas) Limited was incorporated within our goal of providing renewable energy solutions for the Caribbean utilizing local talent and expertise, gained through the exchange of technology by the worldwide companies we represent.

Our creditability has gained us the authorised distributorship for Xantrex Technology Inc., Outback Power Systems Inc., Southwest Wind Power, Bergey Turbines, BP Solar, Power-One Inc. (Italy), Delta Lightning Arrestors Inc.,Trojan Batteries and Calpak Solar Water Heaters (Greece), allowing us to offer worldwide warranty and full technical support.
